Ocean Albatros with Road Scholar

Exploring the Seas, One Expedition at a Time

About the Ocean Albatros

Albatros Expeditions first introduced the Ocean Albatros in May 2023, and it has been making waves ever since. This ice-strengthened expedition ship was built to withstand rough weather along Arctic voyages while maintaining a smooth and calm sailing for its passengers. Ninety-five cabins keep the passenger list leaning toward a small ship experience, but there is no sacrificing comfort — most cabins have a private balcony, and each cabin includes a private bathroom with a shower and sitting area. Learning can take place in a variety of places on board the Ocean Albatros, including in two restaurants, a modern lecture lounge and in ports across Europe, South America and Antarctica.

Ocean Albatros

Life On Board

This magnificent vessel transports you to some of the world’s most remote locations, offering unique glimpses into ways of life, landscapes and wildlife not everyone gets to see. In addition to a design that makes exploring these waterways possible, the Ocean Albatros also includes a variety of amenities to make your voyage comfortable as well as exciting:

Good to Know

AMENITIES

  • Elevators
  • Laundry
  • Wifi
  • Fitness Center
  • Room Service
  • Strict Dress Code
  • Currency Exchange
  • Medical Facilities

A Zodiac boat is an inflatable and motorized small rubber boat that provides Road Scholars with the opportunity to get up close to the natural wonders and wildlife in and around rugged landscapes, including icebergs, seals and seabirds. These boats are incredibly sturdy and stable, offering a comfortable and unique experience on a different type of vessel. Before embarking on a Zodiac, weather conditions will be carefully considered, and you will receive a mandatory safety training.

On Zodiac sailings, both hands must be free for boarding, so waterproof bags are recommended for any belongings. Those with physical limitations might find Zodiac field trips to be more challenging. Zodiacs may also be used to access tender ports.

In keeping with the more adventurous locations visited by the Ocean Albatros, the dress code on board is casual. The emphasis should be on apparel that will keep you comfortable in various weather conditions — think clothing with breathable, waterproof and windproof options. Gloves, thermal underwear and sturdy footwear are also
recommended. A smart casual option would be appropriate for the captain’s cocktail and farewell cocktail.

The Ocean Albatros puts sustainability at the forefront of its voyages — it has more than a 50% lower carbon footprint than traditional expedition vessels. It also implements the Green Initiative Program, which includes steps like using biodegradable laundry chemicals and bathroom products, eliminating single-use plastic items and serving seafood that is caught or raised with the well-being of the species, oceans and fishery communities in mind.

The Ocean Albatros uses a 220-volt, 50 hertz cycle system. If you have 110-volt appliances, please purchase an adapter prior to boarding the vessel. The electrical outlets on board are round 2-pin, 220-240 volts, grounded (or "F"-type sockets), commonly used in continental Europe. These outlets take C, E and F-type 2-pin plugs.

Smoking is not allowed inside the Ocean Albatros or near Zodiac vessels. There are designated areas on outside decks where smoking is permitted.

A shop is available on board the Ocean Albatros offering merchandise such as apparel and souvenirs. Hours of operation may be limited.

There are two cabins on board that are wheelchair accessible. Participants who require a wheelchair must bring their own collapsible wheelchair. Participants who are physically disabled or who need assistance must also travel with someone who can assist them during the voyage and in the event of an emergency. Please note that some ports, excursions and other onshore events may not be wheelchair accessible, and participants in wheelchairs might be required to remain on board the Ocean Albatros

All stateroom types contain a safety box, television, refrigerator, several 230 W power and USB outlets — additionally, bathrobes, slippers, toiletries (body wash, lotion, shampoo) and a hairdryer are also included.

Keep in mind, we will be cruising in remote regions of the world. Where accessible, Internet access is available for an extra charge. Mobile phone reception may be possible in select regions along our routes. For further details, please contact your mobile phone operator. You will receive further information on pricing once on board. Please ensure that your “Data Roaming” function is switched off.

Each of our vessels has a small medical facility equipped with the necessary equipment and medicine to handle small emergencies. The infirmary is always staffed by a professionally licensed, English-speaking physician. Should a serious incident occur, the nearest hospital will be contacted. All guests must have personal travel/health insurance.

Although we do not have an official requirement regarding personal fitness, you should be able to move on board and ashore without the help of others.

There are several water stations on board Ocean Albatros. Normally, water is not rationed, but we do advise our guests to pay attention to their water consumption.
