At first, an almost four-month trip may seem daunting. However, considering the extent of the travel, it allowed us to accomplish our goal of seeing places we have not seen before and might not have had a chance to see in-depth at our age. The lectures on board the ship were excellent and brought insight into the area we were traveling through. The ship had its lectures and entertainment, which we enjoyed. We appreciated unpacking once and having the sea days to 'recover' from the excursions.

This was my "trip of a lifetime" and I'm thrilled to have gone on it. I can't wait to plan my next Road Scholar trip.

If you are a lifelong learner, with a desire to see parts of Africa, Australia, and Southeast Asia, in order to learn about their histories and cultures, then this world voyage is for you. The sea days provided a way to travel in style and comfort, with ample time to recharge your batteries in between ports of call..

This was indeed "a" trip of a lifetime(not "the" as there will be more). At every level it was extraordinary- the time flew by.

This journey had its challenges for us, starting with my fully-vaccinated and boosted husband testing positive for Covid the day before we were to board the ship. We are grateful to the RS Covid Support Team who overcame Cunard's rigidity regarding our boarding the ship in Heraklion, rather than waiting until Abu Dhabi. QM2 is showing her age. The air filtration ship was more than suspect; a fellow passenger/water color student (not in the RS group) and his wife had to vacate their stateroom when it was covered with a filthy discharge from what was supposed to be the fresh air grill in their stateroom. The sound of what we dubbed the "Cunard catarrh" echoed throughout the ship. I strongly urge RS not to book groups on the QM2 again.
Turning to the port of call experiences, with the exception of the Australian ports, everyone was a new experience for us. (We were disappointed to have Hong Kong and Sri Lanka erased from the original itinerary.) The RS lecturers were good to great. That said, tying so many of the port experiences to the world religion lectures became tedious. Still there were a number of terrific surprises such as our meal at the Michelin one-star restaurant in Malaysia.
Since returning, I've been repeatedly asked what my "favorite" was. Initially my answer was that choosing was almost impossible. On further reflection, I think it was experiencing the bodies of water that cover 70% of our planet and beginning to grasp the geo-political and ecological issues associated with our oceans and seas. I concluded by the end of the voyage that I am more of a land traveler. That said, it was fascinating to experience a protracted time at sea and understand its call to certain humans.

My learning on this trip was phenomenal. Road Scholar has attracted the very best speakers in their fields.
