At a Glance

As Robert E. Lee’s army approached Gettysburg, many civilians chose to stay, only to find themselves caught in the crossfire when Union troops retreated through town on July 1 in 1863. Confederate forces then occupied Gettysburg for three harrowing days. Join historian Dr. Brad Gottfried, a Gettysburg Licensed Town Guide and author of 22 Civil War books, for a virtual tour of Gettysburg sites, exploring the fear, heroism, and hardships endured by those who remained as battle raged around them.
