At a Glance

Homer’s Odyssey tells the story of its eponymous protagonist Odysseus in the aftermath of the fall of Troy. Join archaeologist and educator Nick Stavrinides as he takes you back more than three thousand years in search of Odysseus, the resourceful seafarer whose perilous ten-year journey back to his island home of Ithaca transforms him into an archetypal modern hero navigating the unknown world with courage and cunning. In this third of five lectures, we’ll explore how Odysseus’ impulsiveness and hubris led to dangerous encounters with the one-eyed giant Cyclops Polyphemus, the enchantress Circe and the Lotus Eaters.
