I enjoyed this trip. We had been to some of the cities on our own but the activities, guides, hotels and restaurants were all elevated to me. The trip was well coordinated with the exception of one activity: the nature walk on Jekyll Island was a disappointment. Other wise the trip was well organized, enjoyable and the other travelers were a delightful group.

Beautiful cities full of rich history of our nation bad and good. A great place to travel in the spring when the gorgeous flowers are in bloom. Wonderful historic houses and forts to explore

This was my first Road Scholar tour, and my first solo travel experience. I was extremely pleased with the quality of the educational focus, the accommodations and meals. I loved having the independent time during this tour to dive deeper into my special interests- at my own pace. The structure of this tour gave me the best of both experiences: -group travel, with new friends and organized activities, -my enjoyment of independence and my need to explore. Well done Road Scholar!!!

Interesting program with excellent guide. My trip was greatly enhanced by advance reading of David Detzer's book "Allegiance: Fort Sumter". Amazon offers "picture maps" of CHS and SAV for less than $10.00 each. These were vastly superior to the maps handed out on the program.

Having experienced my first Road Scholar trip, I will plan more in the future. I recommend this itinerary for its historical locations, local guides who brought history to life, good Southern cuisine and hotel accommodations, particularly in Charleston and Jekyll Island. Tom and Janet were excellent tour guides; always upbeat, positive, organized, entertaining and knowledgeable!

Having never been to the South this trip gave me some insight into the history and present day life. As a beginning to hopefully more trips it was a great start to seeing another part of the USA. Especially enjoyed seeing the different cities; enjoyed the group and Tom and Jan were great tour leaders!

The Charleston to St. Augustine: A Southern Coastal Journey is an excellent overview of the four locations visited. There is much history in this part of the country and this program expanded my knowledge base. I highly recommend this program.

If you are interested in learning on your trip, and not just sitting down and rest, go with The Road Scholars. You meet nice people and you learn a lot.

This was a great trip - Charleston, Savannah, Jekyll Island and St. Augustine are each interesting and scenic but different from each other. The trip offered a good mix of sight-seeing with the group and time on one's own to explore or just relax. The hotels were all comfortable, and the Jekyll Island Inn is spectacular. Tom and Janet, our guides, were wonderful!

This program gave us a much better knowledge of this region and the history of how these cities factored in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Pace was good as was the food. There was ample free time at each stop. We had an outstanding leader in Tom Murray accompanied by his wife, Janet. They truly made a difference.

Each of the four main stops on this tour of Southern coastal cities had its own highpoint: from the azaleas bursting into bloom at Middleton Place near Charleston, to the 22 exquisite squares in the historic district in Savannah, to the beauty of Jekyll Island despite the rain, to the grandeur of the Flagler College area set amid the touristy attractions of St. Augustine. Add in the low country setting, the delicious local food, and the warmth of the southerners themselves, and you have a trip that's hard to beat.

You will learn a lot about this part of the country that you probably don't know. It is a fascinating tour to three easily walkable cities and and being a flex trip, you have a chance to see things that you may want to revisit or explore on your own.

If you've not been to the southeastern coastal cities before, this is a great introduction. History lectures and discussions, sweetgrass baskets and low country boil, the Charleston City Market and a chance to honor the martyrs at the Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church, the Squares of Savannah and the lovely Telfair Museums, and the fascinating history of St Augustine!! So much to learn about!!
