At a Glance
Encompassing the northermost part of Scandinavia, Norway provides a gateway to exploring the regions above the Arctic Circle. On this voyage, experience Norway’s frozen landscapes and impressive natural wonders firsthand aboard an expedition ship perfectly outfitted to navigate arctic environments. Explore the renowned Lofoten Islands by Zodiac ship to get up close to their natural splendor and delve into their fishing and artist communities. Come into port on Senja, Norway’s second largest island, and learn about the local Sami community. Your journey will be bookended by overnights in Oslo, with time to experience Norway’s capital and continue learning about the country’s history and its relationship to the Arctic.
Activity Level
Let's Go!
Walking up to three miles per day in Arctic conditions including snow, ice and rocky uneven terrain. Climbing stairs between decks on board as well as external gangway stairs to transfer between the ship and Zodiacs. Most embarkations and disembarkations will be via Zodiac, which requires stepping up or down approximately 12 inches. Zodiac landings will generally entail disembarking onto rocky or gravelly beaches and, in windy weather, can make for rather splashy rides. There is the potential for rough seas with ship movement. Expedition activities include expert-led hikes, extended Zodiac voyages and snowshoeing.
Best of all, you’ll…
- Get in the middle of it all by enjoying snowshoe hiking around the Lyngen Fjord.
- Visit the Fram Polar Expedition Museum and Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo to learn more about Norwegian history and the stories of Arctic explorers.
- Enjoy an evening at the Hurtigruten Museum, where you’ll experience the land-docked MS Finnmarken and learn about the importance of the Hurtigruten coastal express operations.
